Siargao – Day 5: Gnarly Waves & Goodbyes

Day 5: Gnarly Waves & Goodbyes

October 30, 2024

While the previous day’s sunset was disappointing, to say the least, the sunrise we got to see over here made up for it and then some. The sky slowly shifted from deep blue to soft pink, then orange and red – the kind of sunrise that made us forget the rain, the mud, the missed sunset and every minor inconvenience that had led us there. What a way to start the day, huh?

A Few Farewells

With Micah having to work in the afternoon and me having a flight to catch, we started making our way back to General Luna early in the morning.

After a quick breakfast, we took to the road and made a few more stops at random beaches. At one of them, the waves were so gnarly that I called Micah crazy for wanting to surf them. It was right at that point that this guy showed up on his paddleboard, manoeuvring over the waves effortlessly like it was second nature. Meanwhile, back home, I usually tend to kneel on my paddleboard the second the water starts to get even the slightest bit choppy.

Back at Mad Monkey, Micah and I bid each other farewell. Though we had spent only a few days together, I’d grown fond of him. He’s truly the coolest and I was definitely gonna miss him. Plus, he got me into freediving, yet another skill I’d go on to practise and come to love.

And with that, I had one final farewell left: Siargao Island – an island that had given me so, so much: from fateful reunions to a new passion!

Stay wild,
Marius
