About The Roving Doctor

Welcome to my blog, you crazy, beautiful people!

Illustrated travel portrait representing Marius Brown

I’m Marius Brown, a Maltese emergency doctor, divemaster and chronic collector of stories. When I’m not working in the emergency department, I’m usually travelling somewhere remote, disappearing beneath the sea, climbing the occasional mountain or writing about the people and places I encounter along the way.

The Roving Doctor grew from the two obsessions that have shaped my life: medicine and the world beyond it. Here, I share honest stories from hospital corridors and distant horizons, including the triumphs, disasters, dark humour and occasional existential crisis that come with trying to build a meaningful life between both.

I’m still working towards becoming an extraordinary doctor and an infamous pirate. Until then, you'll find me drinking far too much coffee, making questionable transport choices and following the next story wherever it leads.

Two worlds, one story

My obsessions

The two forces that keep pulling me forward — one through hospital corridors, the other towards the edge of the map.

Malta

It took me leaving Malta for a year to finally understand just how much this tiny country has to offer. Coming home made me see it differently: the sea, the history, the hidden corners and the sheer amount packed into a few small islands. For all its quirks, Malta really is the gem of the Mediterranean.

Inside the journal

Stories worth remembering.

Not a guide to having life figured out — just an honest collection of the stories, questions and detours that make it interesting.

If you’re looking for tidy answers, you might find this place a bit unconventional.

But if you’re here to explore the questions, the detours and everything in between, then you’re exactly where you belong.

We’ll get along just fine.
