It had only been a few months since I had last seen Amelia back in Vienna, and now, true to our word, we’d be doing something we had come up with on the spur of the moment: a liveaboard in the Red Sea.
While Amelia had booked a seven-day diving expedition on board the Tillis, starting from Hurghada, we received an email a few days prior to our trip stating that, due to last-minute cancellations, we’d be boarding the Sea Story from Port Ghalib instead – adding an extra three-hour transfer to our trip. I’d have been mad about it, but at least the itinerary would be unaffected.
Given that I had been to Egypt a few months before, I decided to just do the cruise and then go back to Malta directly, opting to save my leave days for a different trip later in the year. Granted, there was plenty more for me to see in Egypt, but I figured I could revisit later on. For now, I’d just be happy to be diving in the Red Sea once again – my experience in Sharm el-Sheikh having definitely left me wanting more.
Plus, I’d get to see Amelia again! Funny how I had fallen out of touch with most people I’d encountered during my travels over the years but had still kept up the friendship Amelia and I had built back in Utila, Honduras. I guess that goes to show what a solid bond we had formed.
