I.II.II.I – San Pedro: Day One

SAN PEDRO

I.II.II.I – DAY ONE

16/09/22

Another day, another ferry. It’d be my second time stepping foot in San Pedro, though this time round it was intentional. After dropping my stuff at the hotel which was on the opposite side of the island, a mere five minutes away from the ferry pier, I headed out to explore the town a bit.

San Pedro is a town located in the south of Ambergris Caye. Unlike Caye Caulker, the island of Ambergris Caye is much larger and is, in fact, the largest island in Belize. The island consists of a ring of sandy beach with a mangrove swamp at its centre, with San Pedro being the main town. Also unlike Caye Caulker, most of its inhabitants are actually of Mexican descent, meaning Spanish is more widely spoken here.

Another thing that distinguishes this island from Caye Caulker? There’s a ton of buildings, the road’s paved, there’s golfcarts everywhere you look, and it is so much busier and much more touristic!

After enjoying the paradise that is Caye Caulker, stepping foot in San Pedro felt a lot like a downgrade. In hindsight, I think I would’ve liked San Pedro way more had it been my first stop in the country. But it wasn’t and as such, I was extremely glad of my decision to cut my stay there shorter.

My first day there, I was completely alone again – which felt amazing. I love company, but only in small doses. One of the purposes of my trip was to be on my own, to do whatever I like, to not compromise. I’m probably the most ungrateful person on the planet for saying this, but whilst Roy was a heaven-sent angel who was moving heaven and earth so I could have the perfect itinerary, I still felt a bit suffocated. Hell, during the time I spent in Caye Caulker I barely had a minute to myself. I didn’t write a single sentence and I didn’t read one either, I stopped drawing and admittedly, I was going a bit cuckoo.

And so, a little me-time would go a long way to preserve my sanity and my pristine criminal record. I spent the afternoon roaming about the city, its colourful buildings and cheerful people bringing it to life. I headed to my hotel pretty early and focused on the things I had been neglecting for quite a while. Finally I had some time to recoup and recover.

Stay wild,
Marius

Here is where I lost my nipple piercing for the second time. Yes, I did re-repierce it. And yes, it did hurt like a mother – AGAIN.
