Part Two
Reflections: After Chile
Chile… my final country for the trip. I tried not to think about that fact too much in order to make the most of my time instead of wasting it wallowing around in sadness.
Here, I was meant to have a completely different itinerary compared to what I have actually done. I was meant to go to many more places, but due to logistics and planning failures, I found myself visiting only a few of them. I did get a good taste of what the country has to offer, but I’d surely have to visit again one day. Highlights:
- Patagonia: A region I had come to call home over the previous few months. Trekking in Torres del Paine was definitely one of the highlights of my entire trip, with it being my first solo multi-day trek.
- Atacama Desert: San Pedro – a place unlike any other I had as of yet visited, one that charmed my pants off despite my sleep deprivation. Truly a magical place!
- Santiago: Much of my time here was spent in an almost daze-like state where I tried to wrap my head around the fact that my nomadic lifestyle was at an end and that the daily adventures I had gotten so used to would just end as I’d go back to my boring, old routine – a process I had been trying to come to terms with over the entire trip.
When the time came to depart, I felt as close to ready as I possibly could. So with that… goodbye Chile, goodbye South America, and goodbye Latin America. I can never, ever put my gratitude in words. Thank you so much.
